The city of Bilbao lies in the Basque Country, on the northern coast of Spain. Bilbao is situated to the east of Santander and west of San Sebastián, both of which are within easy driving distance. Other areas of interest close to Bilbao include Basauri, Vitoria and Miranda De Ebro to the south, and the Getxo area to the north, known for its quiet beachfront.

Much of outer Bilbao is encircled by the N-634 and N-637 motorways, which run in a north-westerly / south-easterly direction and link many prominent neighbouring towns and cities, together with Bilbao Airport (BIO).

Central Bilbao is famous for its historic Old Quarter, where you will find a host of charming buildings and period features. Known locally as the city's 'casco viejo', the Old Quarter area is situated on the eastern side of the Rio Bilbao river. Large numbers of hotels, dining venues and local stores are concentrated in the Las Siete Calles area, the very heart of the old town, which is best known for its frenetic nightlife and endless partying.

Further attractions and more modern amenities are just a short walk away, in the newer region of Bilbao. The main train stations in the city can be found near to the river banks and close to the Puente de Arenal, while bus stations are peppered throughout the region.
